Trying the Nap Dress
If you’ve been anywhere near the internet or fashion Tik Tok, you’ve probably heard of the Nap Dress. At first glance, the name can be a bit misleading. Founder and CEO Nell Diamond would tell you the dress is by no means a nightgown, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be used for napping. The appeal of the dress lies in its versatility. From feeling put together while doing household chores to a night out to a recent bridal collection, the Nap Dress seems to be able to do it all. Coming in a wide variety of prints, cuts, and sizes the Nap Dress has dubbed itself the most comfortable dress on the market. With strategic smocking on top, ruffled straps, and an airy skirt, I wanted to test this hypothesis.
I wanted to get a feel for the dresses in person before I pulled the trigger, so it was perfect when I had the chance to go on a recent trip to New York. The store is conveniently located in Rockefeller Center and it’s absolutely gorgeous. The store is so bright and fun and the staff was absolutely amazing. They were so attentive in helping me discover my size and pulling pieces for me, this definitely made me think very positively of the brand already. I purchased two nap dresses in the store. The first one was the Naia Nap Dress in the Green Vine Stripe Cotton and the Classic Elizabeth in Navy. I also ordered a dress from their Summer collection in the Blue Hydrangea Cotton Print.
I wore these dresses on three occasions across one weekend. I first wore the Naia dress to dinner and then to babysit after. The length and sleeves of the dress were absolutely perfect, and worked well sitting or standing. The sleeves were very efficient in keeping me warm with strong air conditioning, while also keeping me cool outside in the heat. The dress held up well while babysitting and was super comfortable when chasing kids around and getting them ready for bed. The next day, I wore the same dress to a Graduation party that was entirely outside. Despite it being incredibly hot, I didn’t feel like the dress made it worse. The dress was comfortable and didn’t stick to my legs. I don’t think I felt uncomfortable once. Overall, The Naia was a 10/10.
The next night, I wore the beautiful Elizabeth Nap Dress in Blue Hydrangea to dinner and then to babysit. It was so gorgeous and I loved the ruffling on the sleeves. It was perfect for lounging on the patio and so chic. It is slightly longer than the Naia, but I still loved it the same. I was comfortable the entire night as I chased kids around and did arts and crafts. I wore this dress for around seven hours and wasn’t uncomfortable at all. I will say that the smocking did sink into my skin a little when I was slumped over or sitting with bad posture, but I figured that since it didn’t hurt when I was sitting properly upright, that this was a me problem. I would rate this one a 10/10. I feel like this one is definitely a great summer piece that transitions from day to night so seamlessly.
Overall, The Nap dresses I tried were absolutely amazing and I think they will be such a staple in my closet from now on. The smocking really is all that it’s cracked up to be: Efficient, flattering, and comfortable. If you have been contemplating buying a Nap dress, it’s totally worth it!
